Change happens when and where connection happens. It never happens in isolation.

This is why a church that is working toward starting is working on making the people who are interested into something of a team. It’s not about performance, not about learning the plays and mastering them so we’re better than the other churches, and not about forcing you to be friends. It’s about making change happen.

Getting people to practice those connections, you see, is one of the ways to help people grow and get good at growing. The better you are, the quicker you are, and the less friction you feel when an opportunity to make a connection that is-yet-to-be-made, the more you can grow.

This, in fact, is the real reason God wants you to spend time in his Word. It isn’t so you can have some tools or some equipment that you can pull out when there’s a particular situation that God has taught you about. That’s fine, but it denies the reality of what the Word of God really is.

The Word of God is a lot more than a dictionary, a life-hack, or a for Dummies. It’s God, in Christ, showing up in textual form, for you to meet with him. It’s your chance to connect with him, and for him to connect with you.

Change happens when and where connection happens. It never happens in isolation.
