Welcome
Come-to-Jesus Moments: Attending–Supporting (April 19, 2020)
WelcomE: It’s good that you’re here.
If this is your first time with us, here’s our simple, five-part Spotlight framework so you know where we’re headed for the next 90 minutes:
Welcome > Worship > Learn > Serve > Farewell
This week’s Spotlight focuses on spiritual maturation — moving from having a relationship with Jesus that might be called “attending” (we’ll talk about what that is and isn’t) to what might be called “supporting” (again, leave behind any connotations you may have.) And of course, we’ll leave with clear ways to serve others as we mature.
01. listen & Get Started: let’s go for a ride
We’re diving into a new Spotlight Series (our second ever, so congrats on surviving the first!)
Listen to the song “Me & Becky” by Chris Rice to start thinking about where this series will take you. As you do:
We dare you not to dance, at least a little.
Consider where the singer is trying to take Becky. What’s the point of going for a proverbial drive?
Ask yourself: How does the fact that we “remember Jesus died” help make it ok that “it may cost our lives”? (AKA - What did Easter teach us about our lives and how long they’ll last?)
We believe that all people are wired to be part of something bigger, from families to churches to societies. That’s why, for every person who checks in to this week’s Spotlight, we’re donating $1 to Sure Foundation Lutheran Church in New York, as they work on the front lines of pandemic relief.
Check In: Let us know you’re here

04. Watch (and sing along): make me a light
05. Watch: Do not hold on to me
06. Watch: jesus holds us
07. Listen: holding on to you
Listen (and sing along) to the song “I Am” by Crowder. If you’d like, the slide show below gives some interesting background to the song that helps connect it to this week’s focus.

08. Watch: Carried Across
Watch the video below and consider the idea of a daily commute on a ferry as a metaphor for how you mature as you connect with God.
09. Interact & Read: Moments of Movement: Ancient Edition
Click the volume symbol 🔊in the bottom right corner of the image for spoken audio to guide you through your interaction with this image.
10. watch: Moments of Movement: Modern Edition
How would you answer the two questions in this video? Find someone and give it a try. Learning to identify and articulate the maturation process is a valuable skill that only leads to more growth.
Have you experienced a moment or a season in life in which your faith grew noticeably?
How did that moment change your ideas about “church?”
Serve
11. Watch & DO: Supporting Service
Watch the video below for some brief instructions, and then brainstorm as many ways as you can think of to support your church’s community service efforts. Share them with someone, if possible, and then share them through the box below. (They’ll be helpful for future Spotlights!)
Farewell
12. Pray: 3 Prayers
Pray through the prayer requests you/your group submitted earlier.
Pray that God’s kingdom would grow. Boldly ask God that churches would come out of this trying time stronger, larger, and more mature than they were when it began.
Pray the Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
13. Consider Giving:
God is good to provide ways for the church to keep doing its work even when things seem upside down. In fact, the uniqueness of this moment means that people who are worried or overwhelmed or frustrated are especially in need of the truth that God loves them and holds them in his arms.
When you support Illumine, you support our part in God’s effort to show himself to the world - in fact, you are God’s effort to show himself. Thank you for considering a gift to this ministry.
