The foolishness of pretending to be something we are not is well-taught by the life of Jacob the patriarch. Over and over, at every major crossroad, Jacob refused to be content with the person God had made him to be. We do the same. While God certainly calls us to be ambitious and to invest in self-improvement, he never wants us to lie about ourselves. Even the little lies we tell betray our lack of trust - and more importantly, they betray the fact that we often depend on ourselves instead of depending on God. He promises to be and to provide what we need. So why don't we let him be who he says he is - isn't that the truest version of being ourselves? You do you, and let God do God.
