Life to the bitter of soul
A lot of really tragic things happened in the life of a man named Job. Everything he had worked for and cared for was taken from him - his wealth, his possessions, and even the lives of his children, in a matter of hours. He lost his health shortly thereafter. He was truly in a miserable state, and to make matters worse, he had no idea why. Everything he believed about God, fairness, and life made no sense.
He received advice from some friends - some good, some bad - and throughout the book of Job he begs for a reason for this grief he suffered. In his story, we find many of our own thoughts and feelings. In one of his darkest moments in the book, Job even asks God why he is alive: “Why is light given to those in misery, and life to the bitter of soul?" There are reasons, and when we struggle with grief they must be our foundation if we are to have any hope at all.
